Chia seeds are awesome!


Chia has been trending in my health food radar recently, and I didn’t really get the point until I tried it today. I figured it was another superfood grain or nutty additive like flax seed or nutritional yeast. I had some today, and it felt awesome!


Medical Benefits, Nutrition Profile, & Recipes:


Nutrition Profile:

Its much loved for its Omega 3, 6, & 9 content, as an antioxidant (re: anti-aging and good skin). Vitamin and mineral content wise it is high in phosphorus and calcium. It’s also high in Fiber and keeps you full longer, so people have used it for weight loss. It also helps with energy and gives you an overall feeling of well-being.

As with anything, there are some things to watch out for:

  • Lower blood pressure and blood sugar might be a concern for some
  • Dehydration from consuming raw seeds, since they gel and absorb liquid
  • Ineffective low quality chia, or GMOs that have very little health benefit

Eat Chia seeds:

  • In smoothies or vitamin water.
  • Overnight oats, parfaits, puddings.
  • Add it to yoghurt, granola bars, energy balls, or cereals.
  • The seeds gel (re: fiber) when it meets a liquid so it is also often used as a thickener or in the place of cornstarch.
